Gallery Vision
Wertz | Contemporary is located in Atlanta's exciting Castleberry Loft & Art
District. Flanked by notable galleries such as Skot Foreman and Marcia
Wood, the gallery will continue to build on this precedent whose impetus is
to put Atlanta on the national and international map by showcasing
distinctive contemporary fine art.
264 Peters Street, a one-hundred year old building that was formerly a meat
packing facility turned livery stable and now contemporary art space gives
inspiration to Wertz | Contemporary. The post-industrial, gritty urban
flavor of the gallery showroom and of the Castleberry Loft & Art District
complements the contemporary art represented.
The mission of Wertz|Contemporary is to showcase
and develop the reputations of a diverse range of
artists from around the world. A unique area of expertise
is highlighting contemporary art that is drawn from or
inspired by the historical, social, political, and aesthetic
particularities of Africa and the African Diasporic
experience. This is of particular interest to the director
of Wertz |Contemporary, Jason Wertz, as he is
drawn to contemporary art that stretches aesthetic
boundaries and expands global parameters.
Wertz | Contemporary thus seeks to redefine and foster a broader
understanding of the exciting, complex and diverse world of contemporary
art. In so doing, broaden our dialogue and open our collective visual
imaginations.
Wertz | Contemporary will, therefore, continue to emphasize contemporary
works of art by artists who have established reputations in Africa, Europe,
the United States and other parts of the world. Artists, who Wertz feels
represent this vision, will be featured throughout the year with solo and
group exhibitions.
Wertz | Contemporary looks forward to welcoming
visitors to our distinctive gallery space designed to celebrate an
invigorating and dynamic journey through art and foster groundbreaking
vistas.
